Dear Friend,
As I stated when I wrote about Desires, in order to pursue the desires of your heart you must trust God. But even so, no man or woman can trust God and pursue the desires of their heart unless they have decided to Love others and as the bible says, “Love thy brother as thyself.”
The primary key to trusting God is Love. No desire can be pursued and ultimately fulfilled without a clear understanding of this.
As we celebrate Christmas in a couple of days, let us remember what we are celebrating. We are celebrating a man, the Lord, the King of Kings for his ultimate sacrifice and for his amazing words of life and encouragement. Christmas is a celebration of a man born of a woman who went on to die so that we may have life.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit- fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. This is my command: Love each other.” -Jesus (John 15:16-17)
“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” -Jesus (John 15:11-13)
“ 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.” -Jesus (Mark 12:30-31)
It is so important that we learn how to love, not only in this season, but as we continue forward in our journey of life. We all are seeking things in our life that we feel are important and that we feel are the desires of our heart, but if we do so without a clear understanding of love than we truly are not headed anywhere.
“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.... Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even “sinners” love those who love them... But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons and daughters of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” -Jesus (Luke 6:27-36)
This is my challenge to you as you go into the new season of your life. Many of us are looking for God to do great things in our life and we continue to pray and many of us probably feel as if God is not hearing our prayer. But I tell you today, that God hears our cry and knows the desires of our heart. It is us that must learn to love our brothers and sisters as we love ourselves and be willing to sacrifice it all for our friends as Jesus laid it all down for us. It is through this act of sacrifice and obedience that we are able to see the desires of our heart come to life. Trust God! "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. -Isaiah 55:8-9
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus!
Love,
Robert
